I purchased one each of the black-background kit and the multi-color kit.

The fit of the pieces was fine on the black-background kit -- presumably because they all came from the same tubular blank that was dyed and then laser cut. All pieces in the kit -- with the exception of the Kokopelli character itself -- originated from the same piece of wood.

The fit of the pieces in the multi-colored kit, however, was disappointingly poor. I presume that the blanks were dyed whole, then cut up, then the pieces from DIFFERENT blanks mixed and assembled into kits. Each piece from a different and separate original blank (that was dyed whole with a single color).

Several pieces had to be sanded and trimmed before they could be assembled without unacceptably large gaps. The bottom edge of the assembled tube showed mis-alignments of up to 1/8".

I've bought laser-cut blanks of this sort from other artisans and they've gone together much more easily and much more tightly.

I have photos. Wish I could share them.

Edit in from email sent 4-17 -

While reasonably uniform on the surface when assembling the blank, the color starts to disappear after only minimal shaping and sanding.

The green Kokopelli figure in the black-background set appears splotchy green & white where dye penetration was inconsistent. Not attractive at all.

I haven't yet turned the multi-color set, but I have no reason to expect it to be any different.
