Cocobolo is popular for novice pen turners due to its stunning orange wood and striking black grain in the pen blank. This lumber is dense and oily, resulting in a smooth, polished finish that makes it highly sought after. However, its oily properties may pose some challenges regarding gluing, and it emits a unique spicy aroma during turning.
Cocobolo Pen Blanks
Everyone loves Cocobolo with its beautiful orange wood with dramatic black grain. This is often one of the first pen blanks a beginning pen turner will choose to make. Cocobolo is a very dense and oily wood that turns and polishes beautifully and is one of today’s most prized lumbers for its outstanding color. Because it is an oily wood, it can present problems when gluing. It also has a distinctive spicy scent when turning.
The pen blanks measure 3/4" x 5". These pen blanks are all heartwood.
