The refills that come in the lower to middle range of pen kits are basic refills (ie economy). The German-made Schmidt 5888 refill is considered to be a premium-quality refill. The Schmidt 5888's normally sell for $3.00-5.00/ea (depending on quantity). With the upgrade program you can try out the (additional) refill for $1.50/ea. or use it as an up-sell to your customer. You do not need to get fine black.
