My grinder has a shaft length of 13.5" with the grinder hole being 1" in diameter. Will this work for me?

It will not be "plug and play".

On the last page (14) of my tutorial, it shows a very good picture of the inset and crossbar that is required on the bottom of the peppermill. The "grinder" part of the mechanism is 1..625" in diameter. The crossbar needs about another .250" in radius (.5" in diameter). So you will need to make that work. Since your existing peppermill is already drilled, you will have GREAT difficulty using a forstner bit.

So, I can't tell you if it will work for you--depends on how resourceful you are in solving drilling problems.
