Cheese Plane Kit - Stainless Steel

I think I’ve figured out a better way to complete the cheese planer kit than the instructions say. At least it works for me. I set up a blank for the handle, square one end and center drill it with a 7/16 bit about 1/8 deep. I then drill a 7mm hole further into blank approximately 1 1/2” deep. I then cut a standard slimline tube in half and glue one of the halves into the hole with the end of the tube sitting flush with the top of the 7mm hole. Then I use the “turning between centers” system (love it!) and swap out the tail stock for the revolving cone center. I then turn to shape, sand, finish and part off the tail.

For assembly, I tape up the handle to protect from glue. Mixed up some epoxy fill the hole with glue, put the cheese planer into some vise grips with the jaws gripping the edges so that the taper of the planer's shaft prevents the jaws from sliding down the shaft. I can then hammer the on the vise jaws and “press” the planer into the handle until it bottoms out on the ferrule while resting the handle end on a solid surface. I don’t think it will pull out, but time will tell. I have made 3 this way.
