Providing a contrary opinion to the earlier review.
All of the laser inlay kits require a bit of skill with regards fitting all the small wood pieces into place and to deal with any potential mis-fits in the final fit.
The complaint about the use of rubber bands? How ELSE would you expect to hold all the pieces in place especially when working with multiple small loose pieces at once? With regards fit: A light touch with a small piece of fine-grit sandpaper can help tune whether a couple of pieces come together perfectly. If you do get any gapping: rubbing in some saved sawdust from an earlier turning also helps.
Lastly: the instruction of "fit everything together, slide out the tube, and then glue, and slide back in". its just a recipe for misery. What I use is extremely thin CA applied directly in all the gaps: the CA soaks through the gaps and bonds in-between the wood and the tube: i then repeat 5 or 6 times until everything is completely CA impregnated. When cured: I end-trim and then turn on the lathe, with a couple of more hits of CA to soak into any spots missed initially.

I've done probably 200+ laser kits over the years with only 3 failures: each of which was due to insufficient pressure to fit in all wood pieces tight against their adjacent components during the initial fitting. The 'soak heavily in CA' method has resulted in robust pen bodies for years. Trying to slide the tube in and out while trying to apply epoxy? whenever I've tried it the assembled pen shell almost always falls apart :( .

Not impressed with this kit. It requires assembling green parts and grey parts on the brass tube and holding them together with rubber bands, then pulling the tube out and gluing it all together with cyanoacrylate. great in theory, but in reality leaves gaps between some of the parts. I'm left wondering how to fill the gaps with some kind of matching filler.
