Space Explorer Rotacrylic Pen Blanks

One for all the astronomers out there -The Space Explorer!

Although lenses and optics have been known since Ptolemy's time, it took until early 1600 before one was pointed skyward, and as a result, Galileo became the first person credited with observing the mountains and craters on the moon. As well as discerning that the ribbon of light that we now call the Milky Way Galaxy is made up of individual stars. Later, with improvements made by Sir Isaac Newton and others, astronomy flourished and entered a golden age as a direct result of these larger, more complex telescopes and improved optics.

Today, telescopes can view much more than just the narrow visible spectrum of light. And they come in all sizes and forms...from simple backyard telescopes to massive arrays and high-tech space-based creations such as the Hubble (and its replacement the James Webb Space Telescope which is due to launch in 2018). But no matter how large (or small), telescopes open a window of pure wonder on our universe.

This amazing piece of workmanship involved many hours of design cutting on a CNC, including thousands of lines of code. Once cut, the upper blank was re-cast, in resin. The matching blank for the other barrel has no image.

The blank will fit a mid-size pen (Jr Gent II/Jr Statesman/Triton etc)  Because of the double casting and the intricate design, there is a chance of encountering a small bubble. If you do, it can easily be filled with some of the white sanding dust and CA or epoxy. Painted tubes are recommended.

The white telescope is set against space nebula-like resin backdrop of black, gold, and green. There are even "stars" that will glitter in the darkness.
