This amazing piece of workmanship involved many hours of design cutting on a CNC, including thousands of lines of code. Once cut, the upper blank was re cast. The matching blank for the other barrel has no image.

The blank will fit a mid size pen (Jr Gent II/Jr Statesman/Triton etc)  Because of the double casting and the intricate design, there is a chance of encountering a small bubble. If you do, it can easily be filled with some of the sanding dust and CA or color matched epoxy. Painted tubes are recommended.

I was reading the information on the Rx blank and the last sentence says painted tubes recommended. When I paint tubes, and I have tried several paints, when apply the glue and place the tube in the blank the paint smears and I get a melting effect or gaps on the tube. Suggestions?

Hi John, Apologies for the delay in responding. Been a bit crazy lately with corona. Everyone has their preferred way to paint, each may work fine. I can tell you what we do, which seems to work for us. We use the cheap 79 cent acrylic paint that you get at your local craft store. Paint the inside of the tube hole, and let it dry for a full day. Then glue the tube in with color-tinted epoxy (using a little of the same acrylic paint to tint the epoxy). This seems to help with gaps. Using CA to glue in may work as well, but it doesn't always play nice with some paints and you cant readily tint CA.

That said, as the white in this blank is fairly opaque, you can probably skip painting this one if you don't want to. As a general rule, we ALWAYS recommend painting. Better to paint before than then to look at the blank after turning and to say "I wish I would have" !
