I have been looking at some Samsara pens and noticed that they use a 9.5mm drill bit. Most drill bit manufacturers list 3/8” (0.375”) as being equivalent, but when compared to an actual 9.5mm drill bit (0.374”) there is a size discrepancy. Do you recommend a true 9.5mm drill bit to avoid potential issues with gluing the tube in the blank, or would a 3/8” drill bit work just fine? I would think if someone chose to go with the 3/8” drill bit that epoxy should be used to ensure that the tube does not detach from the blank?

Drill sizes should be considered "suggestions", not "rules".
What material are you drilling? Oily woods (cocobolo, bocote, etc) when drilled will expand to fill the hole slightly, immediately after drilling, so you need a slightly larger hole, whereas a "plastic" or resin blank will hold the shape you cut, so the drill can be smaller diameter.

If your tube slides in and out of the blank with minimal resistance (and you don't plan on painting the hole, in a resin), your hole is about the right size. In any event, one THOUSANDTH of an inch is not a meaningful difference, so the above measurements could be considered "identical" for our purposes.

    Hope this helps,
